2016/2017 Kills
Night Eyes LLC owner, Joe Zaffuto's kills from the 2016/2017 season!
10-22-16
(Opening Night) Windy as hell and on/off rain made for an interesting night of hunting. Ryan and I were able to connect with these two reds. We were both using the .17 Hornet 25 grain hollow point. Ryan dropped his at 115 yards and I had to bark at mine to stop at the 15 yard mark
10-23-16
Took the wife out for a few quick stands and was able to call in this red using the FoxPro. shot it with the .223 at about 70 yds.
10-24-16
Called this one in even though winds were over 15mph. Watched it come across the field for about 300 yds then it stopped at the edge of the corn. Made the shot with the .223.
We called in a bobcat and watched it crawl on its belly across the field towards us. It finally stopped about 10 feet away, too bad it was not season yet.
10-25-16
All shot with the .17 hornet using 25 grain hollow points. I was unable to recover one gray that ran into some really thick brush and disappeared.
10-26-16
Called this red in using a mouth call while sitting in the middle of a cut corn field. Was able to make the shot at about 55 yds before it was able to wind me. Shot with .17 Hornet
10-29-16
Called in a huge 30+ lb Bobcat (not yet in season). We watched the Bobcat get chased off by a doe.
Ryan shot a gray and just after skinning it at his place, Joe shot this coyote across the road from Ryan's house. It came running out of a corn field and I shot it with my .17 at about 25yds.
10-31-16
(Killer Night) Ryan hunted until midnight due to school. He shot a coyote and 2 reds with the .17 Hornet. I hunted until 3:30am and shot 4 reds and 3 coyotes using my .17 Hornet.
11-2-16
Joe and Ryan took these two grays on the same set. Ryan shot the one on the left and Joe shot the one on the right at the same time. Both used the .17 Hornet
11-3-16
Joe & Ryan produced these three fox on two stands. The two reds came in together and Joe shot the male on the right at 60 yards and Ryan shot the female on the left at about 90 yards. Both using the .17 Hornet. The gray was shot at 160 yards by Ryan.
11-4-16
Joe shot these two grays on the same set using his .223.
Both called in using mouth calls.
11-7-16
A Grand Slam for Joe & Ryan. The red and gray were shot on the same stand. Ryan shot the gray at about 50 yds and the red at about 90 yds using the .17 Hornet. Called in with the FoxPro. Ryan made a nice shot on the coyote at about 60 yds (right between the eyes). Joe hit a coyote earlier in the evening and was unable to locate.
11-8-16
Quick night out using mouth calls yielded this red. Called it in to about 40 yds and shot with the .17 Hornet.
11-13-16
Called in this double during the Super Moon. Both came out of standing corn. Joe shot the first and Ryan shot the second with the .17 Hornet while using the new
Night Eyes GL-300 Gun Light
11-16-16
This huge red was shot during a light rain. When we went to retrieve the red it was lying beside a groundhog. Apparently we interrupted his dinner. Shot with the .17 Hornet.
11-22-16
Made a nice 100 yd shot using the new GL-300. Unfortunately I had to discard it because it had the start of mange.
11-23-16
Called this double in using mouth calls. Randy shot the first one using the .223 and I connected with the second at 120 yds using the .17 Hornet.
11-24-16
Ryan shot this nice looking coyote while hunting with his girlfriend
11-25-16
Joe and Randy had a crazy night of hunting. Killed 18 reds in one night. Closest shot at about 15 yards the furthest was shot at 240 yards. Shot two more but couldn't locate them. We were using the new GL-300R lights.
11-28-16
Quick night out got Joe & Ryan these 2 Grays. Shot with .17 Hornet using mouth calls
12-5-16
Night started off with Ryan shooting a Gray in my backyard when he arrived for a night of hunting. Ryan shot the first coyote of the night following a challenge call. Unfortunately it was full of mange so we had to leave it. Not in group picture. Past on another bobcat since season not in yet. Finished the night with two coyotes, 4 reds and 1 gray. All shot with .17 Hornet.
12-5-16
Mangy coyote not in the above group pic.
12-7-16
This is where scanning while walking in pays off. Saw this gray while walking to my stand. Made the shot at 90 yards
12-10-17
Went out for a few hours during the full moon and managed to get this red. Made the shot at 175 yards using the .17 Hornet.
12-16-16
Joe & Ryan hunted for a few quick sets with the advantage of snow and the disadvantage of the wind. Was able to shoot this gray just before it winded us. The wind kept changing directions so we called it a night.
12-19-16
No moon made it easier to call these three reds in. The .17 Hornet caused little fur damage on all three.
12-20-16
These 5 reds were shot from ranges of 80 to 250 yards using the new GL-300 gun light. Having that little extra distance helped with some of those longer shots.
12-25-16
The wife said I had to spend Christmas night with her so I figured I only had one choice. I gave her some hunting cloth, a headlamp and brought her along, lol. We did two stands and on the second one she spotted this gray hiding in the woodline. After a little coxing it came out into the cut corn, DRT!
12-26-16
Joe & Randy went out for a few quick sets. Joe connected with one Coyote on the run after Randy's gun misfired.
12-27-16
Joe and Ryan went out with a little more wind than preferred but Ryan was able to connect with this really nice red using the .17 Hornet.
12-28-16
Joe went out before a little precip was expected and finally after many hours of hunting Joe connected with a couple of grays. Both were shot using the .17 Hornet
1-5-17
Joe & Randy in Nebraska. Joe shot both of these coyotes in -10 degrees temps. The first one was a running shot at 150 yards. Joe missed it on the first shot but the GL-300 was able to clearly light it up while it was on the run.
1-15-17
Joe & Ryan 3 reds down before moon became too bright to hunt
1/16/17
Joe & Ryan out early to beat an expected bright moon. Ryan shot this gray behind Joe's place while waiting for Joe to gear up. Joe shot the red about two hours later.
1-24-17
Ryan and his friend Matt were successful with one nice Bobcat and 3 fox.
1-30-17
Slow cold night produced just one gray.
1-31-17
Joe & Ryan went out targeting bobcats. Joe shot one at about 40yds with .17 Hornet. Tried for the second cat of the night with no luck.
2-18-17
Shot two coyotes but was only able to recover one for Mosquito Creek Hunt. Tracked the second one for almost 1/2 mile before giving up.
3-6-17
Joe & Ryan scored with two coyotes before putting the guns away for the season. Both were filed by a TV crew and will be featured on the Pursuit Channel.
Here is the year end picture for the 2016/2017 season. Unfortunately, the picture does not include all the kills but does show the majority.
2015/2016 Kills
Night Eyes LLC owner, Joe Zaffuto's kills from the 2015/2016 season!
10/25/15 - First night out and first kill of the season. Called in using mouth calls and shot with the .223.
10/27/15 - Called in using mouth calls and shot at approximately 60 yds using .223. Not very fur friendly when shot in the head.
Called this grey using the FoxPro on Halloween Night. Dropped him in his tracks at about 30 yds out. Saw him coming from over 275 yds away with the headlamp set at 40%.
My hunting partner and I were able to take these three greys and two reds on just three stands. Closest one shot at 25 yds and the furthest at 187 yds.
A combination of mouth calls and the FoxPro made for a quick and successful night. My hunting partner shot the one grey at 170 yds using his .17HMR. Shot placement makes all the difference.
Shot both greys using the .223. One at 35 yds and the other at 175 yds. The white light on the dual-beam headlamp made recovery of the 175 yd kill much easier. Both were shot on the same stand.
Went out for two quick stands. Shot this grey using the .223 at 50 yds on the second stand.
My hunting partner and I were able to complete our first grand slam. Called the coyote in and shot it at 40 yds while sitting in the middle of a cut field. The coyote was shot using the .223 but managed to run another 60yds before recovery was possible. My partner was able to shoot the red and grey using his .17 Bmag. We also called in two nice bobcats but season wasn't in yet so we had to pass.
A two night and one day midwest hunt produced these six nice coyotes. My partner and I were both using a .223. Closest one shot at 25 yds and the furthest one shot at 150 yds.
This huge grey came running in using the Deadly Dose mouth call. My partner and I shot at the same time with both of us hitting our mark.
Saw this grey coming from over 275 yds and was able to stop him with a bark at 25 yds. Made the kill with the .223.
My hunting partner and I were both able to take these three using .17 caliber rifles.Called in using a combination of mouth calls and the FoxPro.
A quick night out produced this nice grey.
Switched to the .17 Hornet since my hunting partner was getting tired of sewing. We did an all nighter and were able to shoot these six fox. We were both using the .17 caliber rifle. Distance from 50 yds to 125 yds. All were shot while sitting in open fields.
Another all nighter produced these eight fox. Called in using a combination of mouth calls and the FoxPro. By keeping the headlight beam on them as they approach and not turning on the gun light until you are ready to make the shot gives you the advantage.
A quick night out using mouth calls produced this nice red. The .17 Hornet leaves little fur damage.
First snow hunt of the season. Shot this grey at 50 yds using the .17 hornet.
This small red was shot at 35 yds. By using the headlamp beam as my camouflage.
Called in this cat using a mouth call and my hunting partner was able to shoot his first bobcat at 15 yds. Stayed out a few more hours and was fortunate enough to add a few more fox to the night's total kills.
After 20 minutes of calling I switched to a pup distress and this female came charging in from downwind. Saw her coming from over 300 yds out and stopped her by using two barks at 210 yds and made the kill before she was able to wind me using my .223.
This is the season end picture minus one bobcat that went to the taxidermist and three coyote that were taken during daylight hours. All the fur shown was called in at night by me and shot using the Night Eyes headlamp and gun light combination.
2014/2015 Kills

Shot the yote at 70 yds and the red fox at 50 yds on the third night of the season using .17 Hornet.
Called both in on the same stand. First one almost ran over me and the second one was shot around the 15 minute mark. Little fur damage with the .17 Hornet
My hunting partner and I were able to take these 5 reds using a combination of mouth calls and the FoxPro. Closest shot was 40 yds and the furthest at 125 yds.
My hunting partner called this one in but missed at 70 yds. Mr. red stopped to take one last look at 200 yds and the .17 Hornet found its mark.
Late-November-with-little-snow-made-recovery-of-these-two-nice-reds-easier-2014-2015-Kills
Late November with a little snow made recovery of these two nice reds easier.
Second night out with a little snow on the ground and I was able to call in these two reds. I shot one with the .17 Hornet and my partner took the other with a .17 HMR. Both called in with mouth calls.
Called in this red the first night of December and shot wit with the .17 Hornet suppressed at about 85 yds.
First night out using my new dual-color beam headlamp. Shot the first one at 25 yds. and the second one at 90 yds.
Took 20 minutes for this one to show up. Shot it at 110 yds.
I am really liking the dual-color beam headlamp. Using the white beam of the headlamp made this one easy to track.
This one was shot mid December using a .223 at about 80 yds.
Took awhile to find this yote even though the .17 Hornet connected. Ran about 70 yds. before he was located. White beam on headlamp made the recovery possible.
Squeaked this one in to about 25 yds a few days before the new year.
Saw this ones eyes coming in at about 260 yds. out. Finally stopped at about 60 yds. and the .17 Hornet found its mark again.
My hunting partner shot the red on the move with a .223 at about 65 yds. Shot the three greys with the .17 Hornet. Two of them were shot on the same call stand. It pays to stay on stand a little longer.
Worked this one for over 30 minutes but could not get it to commit. We were able to keep the headlamps on him as we walked towards him. Handed the .17 Hornet to my partner and he made the shot at 70 yds.
This one and only stand was able to produce this nice red in mid January.
My hunting partner and I were able to take these four using a combination of mouth and electric calls. Furthest one shot at 100 yds. and the closest one at 30 yds.
2013/2014 Kills

First hunt of the 2013/14 season. All three were called in using mouth calls and shot with a .17 Hornet. Furthest one shot at 50 yards.
Both Grays were called in using mouth calls in late October. The small 20 grain bullet from the .17 Hornet left little fur damage.
These 5 Coons and one Gray were called in using a combination of mouth calls and the Fox Pro. All were shot using the .17 Hornet.
This nice Gray was taken in early November using a mouth call and shot with the .17 Hornet.
The Gray was called in with the Fox Pro and the Red with a mouth call. The Red was shot at over 125 yards and the Gray at 50 yards. Both were shot with the .17 Hornet.
These eight Reds and one Coon were shot on a weekend hunt with a friend in late November. All eight reds were called in using mouth calls and shot with the .17 caliber. The closest was taken at 25 yards and the furthest at 125 yards.
Both Reds shot using the .17 Hornet and called in using mouth calls during an early December hunt. One taken at 110 yards and the other at 30 yards.
Only thing missing here is Mr. Coyote. They were called in near the end of December using mouth calls and a little coaxing with the Fox Pro. The .17 Hornet did the job again!
Mid December warm spell produced two nice Grays and two Large Coons. All called in with mouth calls and shot with a .17 Hornet.
Christmas Eve success. Fox Pro and mouth calls did the trick. All shot between 30 and 90 yards using a .17 Hornet.
First week of December after a fresh snowfall using a combination of mouth calls and Fox Pro produces five nice Grays. My hunting partner shot two with a .223 and I shot the other 3 using the .17 Hornet. Closest killed at 6 yards with the furthest at 120 yards.
My hunting partner and I took these three nice Yotes on a mid January hunt in Nebraska. They were shot using a .223 ranging in distance from 50 to 185 yards. One was called in using a mouth call and the other two with the Fox Pro.
Called this Red in using the Deadly Dose mouth call during the January full moon. Saw his eyes from 350 yards out. Made the kill at 60 yards with the .17 Hornet.
This mangy looking Yote is my furthest night kill to date. Called in after 30 minutes of using a combination of mouth calls and the Fox Pro. He was killed using 55 grain .223 round. I had no problem seeing the body at 285 yards and was able to make a clean kill through the heart.
